From running a family food business to making National steel car a reputable in engineering and manufacturing of freight cars, Gregory James Aziz is a celebrated name in Canada. Born on April 30, i949 in London Ontario, Gregory James first studied at Ridley College before attaining a degree of Economics at the University of Western Ontario.

Gregory Aziz, also known as James Aziz joined family owned enterprise Affiliated Foods in 1971 and made it excel within sixteen years. The company became worldwide supplier of fresh foods from Europe, Central and South America to United States and Eastern Canada by 1987. He later went into the banking business in New York in the late 80s and early 90s where he acquired business expertise.

It is through his experience that he bought a crumbling National Steel Car from Dofasco in 1994 and improved it from manufacturing 3,500 cars to 12000 per year. By 1999, National Steel Car started hiring the initial 600 employees to almost 3000.

Starting from 1996, National Steel Car has been awarded honored with the TTX SECO highest quality award from its diligence in engineering, manufacturing excellence and efficiency under Gregory Aziz’s rule. It is the only railroad freight car, engineering and manufacturing company with an ISO certification in North America, ISO 9001:2008.


Leading in new car innovation and building thousands of new railroad freight cars yearly, Gregory James has made National Steel Car among the best businesses in Canada. A charitable being, Gregory James as the company’s C.E.O ensures the company gives back to the society by being a benefactor to several organizations including The Hamilton Opera, Theatre Aquarius, Salvation Army and The United Way among others. His family, fans of horse racing and are Sponsors of the 2009 Anglestone Tournament.


For the 23 years Greg has presided over the company, he has maintained an excellent relationship with staff and organizes Christmas parties for both former and current employees. He encourages his staff and their families to take part in annual food drives that stock Hamilton food banks.
